Milan Godin

Mr. Milan Godin, LL.M., is a legal advisor at the strategic goods unit of the Flanders Department of Chancellery and Foreign Affairs, one of the export control authorities in Belgium.

Milan holds an LL.M. in European Union Law at Ghent University in Belgium. He previously practiced law in the private sector in Washington D.C. and Brussels and held a temporary post at the Legal Service of the European Commission before taking up his position at the Flemish export control authority in 2014.

In his capacity as export control officer he analyses and advises dual-use export authorisation applications and is involved in the identification and stopping of non-authorised transactions and potential catch-all transactions. Part of an authority that highly values transparency to stakeholders, he has extensive experience in outreach to local enterprises and research institutions on the application of controls.

Since 2015, Milan has been the Belgian representative in the European Council Dual-Use Working Party and coordinates the Belgian position in the European Commission dual-use meetings. Currently, he is also the co-chair of the Licensing and Enforcement Exchange Meeting under the Belgian 2020-2021 Presidency of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), one of the international export control regimes that form the basis of dual-use export controls.
